I miss using my Hyprland, the feel, the split windows, waybar and all that quality of life stuff it provides.
Ever since I started my job, I’ve been using a Windows machine, i was given an option to choose Macbook but I didn’t want to switch because I've not really used a Macbook before and I feel it will take a while for me to get use to it especially when it comes to keybinds and stuff because i use alot of that.
The closest thing to Linux I use is Windows with WSL, of course and I’ve actually been enjoying it a little too much.
Normally, when working on my personal project after work, I'd switch to my linux box but recently I've just been using wsl to ssh into it and work from there.
The problem is that whenever I want to use my Linux machine, I have to unplug the HDMI cable, connect it to the other machine, and then switch it back again later. It’s a hassle, and I didn’t want to keep doing it.
So I eventually decided, you know what? If I’m home, I’ll just SSH into my Linux machine or server from Wsl since everything is on the same network.
And yeah, I’ve been doing that for six or seven months now.
Oh my god, I miss Hyprland.
I’m planning to get a KVM switch or whatever it’s called. It’s basically an HDMI switch that lets you connect multiple systems and route them to one monitor.
That way, I won’t have to keep unplugging and reconnecting cables. I can set it up once and switch between machines whenever I want.
Once I get it, I think I’ll be able to return to what I originally planned.
My config Hyprland config is probably out of date by now. I think they released a Lua version that lets you write your Hyprland config in Lua.
So I need to figure out how to update everything and get back up to speed.
I’m hoping this will improve my productivity especially after work, I’m usually drained, but seeing that sleek interface might give me the boost I need to do more work in my own lab.
There’s also one other thing I miss: streaming.
Since I’ve been using Windows and no longer switching to my actual Linux machine, I haven’t been able to stream. My work laptop obviously contains information I don’t want to share publicly.
But once I get the switch, I’ll be able to start streaming again.
I have a backlog of things I want to work on, learn, and explore, but I can’t really do that with my current setup.
So I’m looking forward to what comes next.
