On this day - 2025-11-04
Today is Tuesday, and it is a very busy day at work. It's also my most interesting day of the week because most of my co-workers and the engineers are in the office. Now that returning to the office is happening, I am thinking of coming in a lot more often. This gives me enough time to bond with people and maybe grow and improve my communication skills.
Personal Discoveries and Professional Advice
I find a very pretty font today. I initially want Berkeley Mono for my blog, but I find I have to buy the font, and it is currently expensive for me as a student. Searching for an alternative, I find Ioxely, a very lovely font. I now use Ioxely for my Obsidian and also my code editor, and I love it!
Today I finally summon the courage to start a conversation with one of the senior engineers. I always sit beside him and enjoy the way he works, and I have been waiting to know more about him and what he does. I always think I would be disturbing him, but it is quite the opposite; we chat for quite a while, and he is a really chill person.
He gives me one very nice piece of advice: Never call yourself a student or tell anyone you're a student. He explains that being a student can cause people to treat you like a student, even if they don't mean to, especially if I say, "I am an intern or a placement student". He advises that there is always a perspective of me that is being limited, and I need to own who I am. So now, I am a software engineer!
I also volunteer for a monitor fixing day, where a group of other engineers and I get to replace our old monitors with new ones. I think fixing stuff will be fun, as I have always loved assembling hardware.
