On this day - 2025-11-01
It’s been a productive start to November! I began my day by waking up at 5:00 AM. I hadn't set my alarm the night before, expecting to sleep in, but because I went to bed early, my body automatically woke up on time.
After getting up, I completed my morning routine and headed to the kitchen to make myself a jug of tea. I picked up this tea from a nearby store. Since I find the taste lacking without sugar, I made sure to add some. Having tea early really helps to reset my brain.
I settled into the living room with my tea. It was still a bit dark outside; winter is approaching, so it stays dark until around 8:00 AM. This quiet time was perfect for planning, so I opened my laptop and reviewed the backlog of things I hadn't completed the day before.
Most of my tasks for the day revolved around RSS. I am currently focusing on intentional consumption, so RSS feeds and cutting down on social media are my main methods.
Writing and Reading
I started the work by drafting a blog post. Relaxed on the couch with my laptop, I began drafting the title: "How I categorize my FreshRSS". It feels incredibly good to be writing again; it helped put my brain to work, and I was enjoying it. This drafting session lasted about two hours.
Afterward, I took a break to make and eat breakfast, which consisted of a boiled egg with fruit and fiber cereals. Following breakfast, I tackled some house chores, cleaning my room and the kitchen, which was very satisfying.
Once tired, I took a rest and read a blog post I found on my RSS feed titled "Why I don't use AI". It offered a very interesting discussion about the impact of AI. While I don't fully agree with all the author’s points, I found some of their takes compelling.
Technical Projects and Social Time
Next, I moved on to creating a dashboard for my server. I used Glance, a self-hosted dashboard that is quite simple to set up using Docker Compose. I ran into trouble creating my custom configuration, as deployment kept failing due to path misconfiguration—a definite skill issue on my side. Despite the blocker, I eventually managed to get it running after a few hours.
Later in the day, my housemate's friends arrived, and I went to meet them. We talked for a bit, and then we decided to go out for food at Kukusu. I had a very delicious rice and curry chicken there. I was glad I decided to join them.
When I returned home, I completed the final tasks on my list: adding more feeds to my RSS and successfully creating an RSS feed for my email newsletter using Kill the Newsletter.
